Honning

Honning

Acclaimed designer Maxine Snider founded the eponymous furniture company in Chicago in 1998. Inspired by an extended stay in Paris, where she immersed herself in the study library of the Musee D’Orsay, Snider created the firm’s first collection, aptly named “The Paris Series,” a group of ten pieces that were as rational as they were romantic.

In the decades since, the company has thoughtfully expanded its collection to more than seventy meticulously crafted, highly refined pieces of furniture. Artisanal details nod to the Shakers, the French modernists, and the great Scandinavian designers, as well as the simple beauty of Japanese everyday objects. Elegantly designed tables and desks, sofas and chairs, beds, cabinets, and consoles respect design history, while introducing a fresh air of modernism. Each piece is individually crafted and hand-finished in Chicago. HONNING currently manufactures the work of two distinct designers: Maxine Snider, featuring original designs by the company’s founder; and those designed exclusively for HONNING by Bridgette Buckley.

FEATURED PRODUCT

The origin of the wing-back chair dates to England in the 1600s, when they were first designed to shield the sitter from drafts, and to gather the heat from a fireplace. The Britton Lounge Chair and Footstool are meant to similarly offer a warm embrace, a place of respite and comfort. Its soft silhouette and handsome detailing bring a sense of calm and create a distinguished look in a room. Just right for good conversation, a good book, or a good view it can be used alone or paired around a fireplace or coffee table.
