Inspired by Saturated Color

We wanted it to be elegant, but also family friendly.

The doldrums of Summer have arrived. Exhaustion from heatwaves, restless kids at home, summer travels, you name it. At this point in the summer when everyone is wishing for cooler weather and school drop offs, we need a pick-me-up. Nothing pumps us up quite like a room saturated in color. Brilliant hues are like visual caffeine. While we love a neutral space now and then, ’tis the season for vibrancy. We’ve rounded up colorful spaces to inspire your next design.

Courtney Bishop

Courtney Bishop designed Sullivan Island restaurant Longboard Sullivan’s with indoor-outdoor appeal in mind. Mimicking the local flora, Bishop wrapped the restaurant’s booths in Palmetto (Verdigris).

Lizzie Pincoffs

Austin-based designer Lizzie Pincoffs blended traditional design with pops of color for this library space. “This moody dark library was inspired by the client’s incredible antique books and collections,” explains Pincoffs. “We wanted it to be elegant, but also family friendly.” Perennials’ Touchy Feely (Hello, Sailor!) proved to be the right combination of color, texture, and durability.

Erin A Cantu

Playing off the tropical setting, Florida designer Erin A Cantu chose to adorn poolside chaises in Palmetto (Lapis). The bright blues of the cushions, umbrellas, and towels create a fun outdoor lounge area.

RLH Studio

Minnesota-based design studio RLH Studio combined vivid hues in this outdoor space. The Passerelle flatwoven rug in a custom colorway is the perfect base to complement the blue sofa cushions. “We love specifying Perennial outdoor rugs,” says Renée LeJeune Hallberg, Principle Designer, RLH Studio. “We can customize color and design and the result gives any space great energy.”

Studio AM

Studio AM decked out this beautiful veranda in outdoor-friendly Perennials and Sutherland furnishings. With Mariner 316 Swivel Tub Chairs covered in Bedouin Stripe (Chambray), an Eclipse Ottoman in Very Terry (Noir), and an Eclipse Three-Seat Sofa in Dot, Dot, Dot (Vintage Blue), this seating area mixes pattern play with the stripe and and pillows in Wild Child (Cool Dude) and Jali (Blue Boy). “Livable, kid friendly furniture in vibrant, cobalt blue fabrics and a pop of orange [with Homespun (Spicy)] for an energetic accent helps make this outdoor space inviting,” says Danielle Krieg, Interior Designer, Studio AM. The dining area in the background plays off the blues in the seating area by upholstering Sutherland’s Mariner 316 Dining Side Chair in Perennials’ Jali (Blue Boy). The final result is a space perfect for entertaining.
